NICK HERNANDEZ
Born and raised in Sydney, Nick Hernandez is a self-taught geometric painter. Nick has always had a fascination with shapes, colours and has always been an admirer of architecture and geometry.
In high school, Nick was drawn to indigenous art from all over the world. A modern urban style with a cultural nod to indigenous influence. After some time, Nick moved into a more contemporary style - landscapes of colour and shapes. Nick’s use of colours is one of his many strengths as an artist. Creating a work through his beautiful combination of colours that most would not have thought of. “I take the leap of faith for a lot of people when it comes to combining colours”.
Nick’s current works from his ‘Life on Mars’ series in 2023 have seen his paintings evolve once again. Keeping his vibrant use of colour, Nick has delved into the more angular side of geometry that we are accustomed to seeing from him. When Nick first designs a piece, he utilises rulers and a compass, however, when it comes to applying the paint, Nick does not use tape. If you look closely, you can see this in the line work.
Nick currently paints and resides in Redfern, Eora Nation (Sydney).
